How nice of you to meet me !
Apparently you where wondering who I am precisely?
Well let me tell you: My name is Richard, married and father of 3. During the week I run a driving school in The Netherlands, together with a bussines-partner.
A couple of years ago my kids became an age where I didn't have to entertain them anymore, so all of a sudden, I had time for a hobby ! As a kid I did a lot of scale moddeling: Tamiya was the brand back in the days and planes, cars and tanks where your choice of models. As a science-fiction and fantasy lover I was thrilled to find out, that plastic models had evolved to a wide range of scifi and fantasy kits !
So modelkits it was. Still I could see my own vision in how to build and paint, design-wise. So visiting my first convention (the Scale Model Challenge in Veldhoven NL) and discovering kitbashing was the eye-opener I needed to start kitbashing full throtle.
By then my Instagram name was GEWOONRIES. "Gewoon "is Dutch for: plain or ordenary and Ries is just short for Richard. When I started to get more and more followers, I wanted my name to sound a little more international. So PLAINRIES was born.
So why a complete website then ?
Going to conventions and meetings, almost everybody reacts the same on kitbash-models: "Oh, that is so cool, I wish I could do that too !".
Well let my surprise you: you can ! Everybody can kitbash; plane-builders, car-builders, militairy-builders, old , young, even rivet-counters can kitbash ! It's not scary, hard or difficult; you just need to take the first small step.
Trying to help you get started I organized a Kitbash-challenge during the Scale Model Challenge, wich was a big succes. Hoping to get more and more people to start kitbashing, I thought: maybe a website will help, during the time when there are no conventions. So scrolling around on my website and social-media, I hope I can support you taking your first steps into the world of kitbashing. Get started and have fun !
